ALAN PARSONS:   The Time Machine

The Time Machine/ H.G. Force, Part 1 (Instrumental)

Temporalia (Instrumental)

Narration:

'When you look out into the night sky,
And you see the stars far away,
You're seeing them because of the light
That has travelled from them to you.

But it takes time
For the light to travel here.
So what we're doing is seeing the stars
As they were in the past, in the amount of time
It has taken for the light to reach us.
The further, and further away the stars are,
The further back in time we're looking.

Now we're seeing a star that, let's say,
Is 6,000 years ago.
Imagine somebody on that star looking at us.
They would be seeing us as we were 6,000 years ago.

Which of those two is 'now'?

So space and time are linked together.
We are looking across the space,
we are looking back in time'.

Out Of The Blue

Out of the Blue,
I come sailing
Through the years,
Through the years.
What do I do
Now that I've seen
All our hopes
And all of our fears?

And I'm riding a lonely highway,
I'm the man from out of the blue.
Yes, I'm riding a lonely highway,
I'm the man from out of the blue.

I travel far,
Yet no distance.
I'm still here,
Always here.
So, follow the call
To our senses.
Still there's hope
Behind the fear.

And I'm riding a lonely highway
'Cause I'm the man from out of the blue.

And I'm riding a lonely highway.
I'm the man from out of the blue.

Yes, I'm riding a lonely highway,
I'm the man from out of the blue,

From out of the blue...

Call Up

No one ever lived a thousand years,
Not like things we do or say.
Some of those who really changed this world
We would welcome back today.
They could really light the way.

So, call up Otis,
Call up Marvin,
Call for Buddy. Bring them on!
Call for Ludwig
And for Johann.
We need Lennon. We mean John.

Words live longer than a thousand years,
Listen hard to what they say.
Single voices that would change this world
We would welcome back today.
They would really light the way.

So, call up Jimi,
Let's have Stevie,
Look for Miles to take the floor!
Call for Billie,
Yell for Ella,
Call up Elvis. We'll need more.

So, call up Einstein,
Bring back Darwin,
Call for Newton, and Luther King.
We need Ghandi,
Call Da Vinci.
Call for Jesus. And ask him in.

If we live another thousand years,
Who could help along the way?
Some of those who came and changed this world
We would welcome back today.
They would really light the way.

So, call up Garbo,
Let's have Mansfield.
Maybe Monroe, no she's for sure!
Call Sinatra,
Come on, Crosby!
Is that Bogie at the door?

Bring on Bergman.
How about Dietrich?
Let's have James Dean leave the car!
Call Picasso,
We need Monet,
Let's have Rembrandt and Renoir!

Call up Groucho,
Come on, Gable!
Bring on Hitchcock and let's get Wilde!
Come on, Gershwin!
Let's call Porter!
Maybe Duke could show some style.

Call up Shakespeare,
Bring on Byron!
We need Shelley, and maybe Keats.
Come on, Wordsworth!
Bring on Browning,
Robert Burns, and H.G. Wells...

Ignorance Is Bliss

I find this Paradise
And rest beside a river.
No need to walk another mile,
It seems like everyone has everything
That wishes could provide,
But no one seems to smile.

You won't believe me when I tell you this is fantasy.
Don't ask how long all this can last.
The same old sun will rise and make tomorrow
Just like yesterday
And so your time will pass...

A shelter from the storm,
A room without a view,
A place where you belong,
And like a mother's kiss
That carries you to sleep:
The ignorance is bliss.

One day the wind may change
And blow at your defenses
And shake the ground on which you stand.
One day the tide may turn
And wash away your castles in the sand
And silence rule the land.

A shelter from the storm,
A room without a view,
A place where you belong,
And like a mother's kiss
That carries you to sleep:
The ignorance is bliss.

One day the wind will change
And blow away your wonderland.
Blue skies will soon be overcast.
One day the tide will turn
And wash away your castles in the sand
And you'll find peace ... at last.

The Call Of The Wild

Well, I've talked to the wind and I've listened to rain,
I have climbed to the clouds and I've cried out with pain.
This life is for living, so come to my side
And open your heart … to the call of the wild!

We are all of one nation, all of one creed.
We are all out of nature, all of one seed.
We are in this together, man, woman and child.
So, open your heart to the call of the wild!

We talk the same language in different tongues,
We're somebody's daughters and somebody's sons.
But those who believe we are head of the chain
May wake up to find
We are all that remain.

There is no need to fear what we don't understand
For we breathe the same air
And we walk the same land.
The strong and the anxious, the meek and the mild,
All dance to the drum…
That's the call of the wild!

No Future In The Past

Yesterdays come easy,
They're looking back at you.
The Sun will rise tomorrow,
There's nothing you can do.
It's the same old story
Coming round again.
What is done is done now.
You know you can't hold back the rain.

And there's no future in the past.
So take it slow - you're getting nowhere fast.
You could be saving the situation now,
You'd better run like the devil
If you still know how...

You know the tide is turning,
It's got you on the run.
Your last bridge is burning,
No time for having fun.
Time will wait for no one
To get their day's work done.
We're in this boat together,
You know one and one and one ain't one.

We've come a long long way.
Maybe one day you'll see the light,
But don't let it die!
Don't let it fade away into the night!

Yesterdays come easy,
They're looking back at you.
The Sun will rise tomorrow,
There's nothing you can do.
It's the same old story
Coming round again.
What is done is done now.
You know you can't hold back the rain...

Press Rewind

If you could press 'rewind' and do it all again,
Would you change your mind, would you change a thing?
Would you make it easy, would you make it hard?
Would you play the game under another name
Or ask the dealer for one more card?

Bang your drum, sing your song,
Don't give up, keep the faith,
It won't be long.
You've been high, you've been low,
Press 'rewind' and let it go.

Have you had your say, seen all you wanted to see
Or did your dream give way to reality?
Don't think it's all too late for you to even try...
Before you clip your wings, see what this life brings.
You've waited too long, it's time to fly!

Do you believe in fate and what is meant to be?
Could you imagine life without a guarantee?
Would you appreciate that time was on your side,
A flash of second sight, a chance to do it right?
Is something money just can't buy!

For The Very Last Time

I need to remember the day
When we said goodbye for the very last time.
There was still so much to say,
But time came between us and quietly stole you away.

Let me remember the day
We walk to the garden and sit for a while.
The hours are slipping away,
Still I try to hold them and freeze them in time.
So, leave me believing we'll meet here again.
Promise me some kind of sign.

As each day turns into night,
I blow out the candle and turn down the sheet.
And now that you've risen so high,
I know that you watch over me as I sleep,
Always believing we'll meet up again,
Waiting for some kind of sign.

So now I remember the day
When we said goodbye for the very last time.
But no one can take you away

'Cause here in my memories
There's never a very last time .
Never a very last time...

Far Ago And Long Away (Instrumental)

The Time Machine/ H.G. Force, Part 2 (Instrumental)

Bonus track:

Beginnings (Instrumental)

Narration:

If we go back to the moment that time began,
We can say that space began
At the same moment.
Time did not exist before the universe itself existed.
So asking the question, 'What happened
Just before time began?' is like asking,
'Where was the universe before it began?'
